Matt Welch on What Libertarians Get Right (and Wrong), Rand Paul and Thomas Massie's Latest Hijinks, Trump's Record, Israel, and More

I had the absolute pleasure of talking to Matt Welch, one of my favorite journalists, about a whole bunch of topics. Matt is a writer for Reason Magazine and also one third of The Fifth Column podcast, which I’ve been on a couple of times.

Matt is a libertarian, which is obviously pretty far from my own populist point of view, but he is such a gentleman, someone who can truly convey his ideas in a way that’s both kind and funny. To me personally, that’s the jackpot.

We discussed how he became a libertarian and what it means to him, and what he thinks of some of the high profile libertarians currently in government—Senator Rand Paul and Congressman Thomas Massie, both of whom he’s known forever.

We talked about Trump, what Matt got right and wrong about him, and what his hopes are for the current administration.

And we talked about how to fight confirmation bias—and the last thing he learned that he really, really wished wasn’t true.

Thanks so much to everyone who submitted questions. They were great, all things I wouldn’t have thought to ask but was happy to hear answered.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it.
