Suggest waiting to see the MOU before jumping to conclusions. The agents of chaos will have you believing all sorts of things.

We are anxiously awaiting it. Along w answers re cash

We can all read it Jeff. You got played

Jeff Keener's avatar

You haven't read the signed MOU. You've only read leaks by the enemy. Who are you trying to play?

Yep. Seems like Vance is set up to fail. The enigma to me is kushner and witkoff by his side. I personally think that this is to get hormuz open and extend the ceasefire in the hope that iran implodes on its own. US sucks at regime change and that is the only hope for iran. I suspect the IGRC is forming a circular firing squad.

Clarity Seeker's avatar

Vance is a willing participant on this issue and these steps. Erick Ericksons analysis and facts are a must read. Especially the intelligence from Ratcliife being pushed aside.

It’s very clear this war should never have started. Promises that the people would rebel or that regime change could be made from the air were wrong. Again. So now we have to do what it takes to get out. The American people are past ready. It won’t look good in a lot of ways but out is better than in and WAY better than quagmire.

Batya, it's not JD's deal……it's 100% Trump's deal and he will get all of the blame if and when it fails…..Iran hasn't honored their word in 47 years and doubt that they will now…..hopefully things will stay relatively quiet til after November and then he has 2 years to handle the problem….it was never about regime change…..I feel sorry for the Iranian people but nobody else in the world seems to care about them…..the UN is a bad joke…..

Everyone on Team MAGA is at risk if the war doesn't end soon and on reasonable terms

I think Rubio will be the better candidate for president. Vance is not doing it for me.

If this "deal" falls apart after midterm elections and Republicans are still in power, two things happen.

One, Trump blames Vance and knocks him out of the coming primary race. Two, it would be a lame duck administration and Trump could do anything he wants to Iran. Iran would not be able to build the bomb this year after their defeat, so Trump has that time on his side. I personally do not think this is over. It is probably more like Trump using the Islamic strategy of feigning defeat while building an arsenal. He needs to keep a majority in Congress this year in order to stay on schedule. The fact that Kushner is on his side speaks to this.

Remember, Trump's goal was no nukes for Iran. All the rest, about Israel being right, Iran killing protestors, the strait, etc., was all his usual rhetoric and misdirection. He does not get sidetracked. He just uses narratives while they are useful.

So I think notwithstanding the MoU and everything else, this deal was about stopping the imminent construction of Iranian nukes. Missiles, BioChem weapons, oil tolls, etc., would be mission creep in Trump's view. And Netanyahu criticized him when Trump was temporarily out of power, so as far as he's concerned Bibi is on his own.

The problem now is that Trump might fire Hegseth for publicly opposing him. Where will Trump find another mad dog like Hegseth? (Rubio opposed him in private but defended him publicly, so he's probably OK for now.)

I don't see #1 happening. Some can pretend and call it "Vance's deal" but we all saw Trump, Rubio, Bessent, Hegseth, Vance, et. al, trot out every day and say increasingly deranged things about the progress of the war and negotiations. This war was fought only on weekends when markets were closed to alleviate the issues they all knew it would cause. This is on every member of the administration.

I understand the concerns but I don’t think Trump would do this if it was a disaster. The IRGC has been extremely weakened. There must be huge factional stresses inside the regime. If they want that reconstruction money, they’ll need to cooperate and stop funding terror groups. Much of their population and most of their regional neighbors still want the regime gone, and so loosening of sanctions can be seen as a win, but it's also a danger to the regime. There’s a good chance they won’t last another year.

Vance may have his own modern day Rasputin ( emphasis on the last two syllables): T Carlson.

Peter Piper's avatar

By extension wouldn't that make Vance Trump's Rasputin?

Peter Piper's avatar

So then Trump's the idiot. As many of us have said since his start in 2015

Clarity Seeker's avatar

DC is filled w idiots. I prefer to focus solely on issues and policies. Unfortunately many dont like to do that

Sandra Pinches's avatar

I so strongly share your position. I couldn't care less what Trump's personality is like, let alone what he is thinking about from one moment to the next. All that matters for the country are policies.

Peter Piper's avatar

You can't be real, voting members of the public. You don't care what his thoughts are but how would that not directly translate to policy or issues. That doesn't make any sense

Good stuff as always Batya. However you and other pundits seem to be making some giant assumptions, so we'll have to wait and see I guess. Always your fan ❤️👍🏻

Thank you. It’s very frustrating.

We never should have let Bibi push us into this war.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

I don't think that Trump caved to Iran over a few mines, but I do think he caved over a few points drop in his approval ratings. It is also more likely now that the Democrats will win one or both chambers of Congress back at the midterms. Starting the war with Iran was a stupid move, and now nothing has been achieved except for the waste of lives.

I have also had this exact reaction and fear. However, I started thinking about some things I'm not going to share here because you never.know who might see something, but I think this is not going to happen in that particular way. I have looked at.past words and actions and attitudes and I have in my head 3 other options. Keep faith a bit. If it goes badly, I will be devastated because I will see it as a defeat.
