All that matters is government spending should pay for itself…and the expanded Child Tax Credit (which Rubio supported in 2016) more than paid for itself with the debt as a percentage of GDP going down to 115% in 2022. Unfortunately Trump’s tax cuts increased the deficit in 2018 and they look like they will increase the deficit again this year…they aren’t getting us closer to the 3% deficit ratio Trump inherited from Obama!!
Big Energy should be subject to a windfall profits tax that pays for $1000 checks to working class households because Big Energy shouldn’t benefit from a president’s blunders. That said, I wouldn’t have had a windfall tax in 2022 because we had record fracking bankruptcies in 2020 and so the windfall profits from Putin’s asinine war made American fracking companies profitable quickly which created good paying jobs in 2022. The Iran War is only profits and not jobs so now would be a perfect time for a windfall tax.
Would love to see Republicans come around on stimulus checks for working Americans. It’s not a handout if people are already working - it’s a bonus.
