He is vile! And trust me most immigrants, especially those who fled socialist countries like me, in no way agree with him! And are incredibly proud to be American

David1964's avatar

And until recently, most new Americans who were recent legal immigrants were like you: happy to be here; appreciative of the new opportunities that your hard work and desire to succeed afforded you. And, as we saw during WWII, the sons and daughters of recent immigrants were fiercely loyal, intensely patriotic, and willingly put their lives on the line for their new homeland.

Excellent speech by the Mayor. You are OK with America funding socialist programs in Israel, but weary of those same programs in the US

David1964's avatar

First, the word you want is “wary,” not “weary.” Second, I am both wary of, and weary of, ranting fools like you, whose fact-free carping shows you don’t know what you’re talking about, have no regard for and no gratitude toward this country, and are content to gobble up the slop fed to you by other parasites who find it easy to manipulate you.

RDH's avatar

There are no socialist programs in Israel. Israel is a capitalist democracy. Either you are a propagandist or you are a willful idiot. What is certain is that you are an anti-Semite just like the Jew hating communist mayor.

H.S.'s avatar

Here’s a list of all the universalist, state-funded policies advocated by modern American democratic socialists (like Mamdani) and Left-wing theoreticians.

1. National Healthcare (Universal "Single-Payer" Hybrid)

The National Health Insurance Law provides a system that is functionally very close to "Medicare for All" or a universal single-payer model.

2. Universal Maternity & Family Protections (Bituach Leumi)

The National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) oversees a highly protective, mandatory paid family leave and child stipend architecture.

Maternity/Parenthood Benefits: Birth mothers receive 15 weeks of 100% fully paid maternity leave (funded entirely by the state, not the employer).

3. Higher Education & Subsidized Early Childhood.

Tuition Price Controls: University tuition at public institutions is strictly subsidized and capped by the government at roughly $3,000 to $4,000 USD per year. This prevents the hyper-inflation of student debt seen in the United States.

Early Childhood: The state guarantees fully subsidized, universal preschool and nursery programs starting at age 3, relieving families of massive childcare costs.

If Mamdani and AOC are socialists because they advocate for these programs, then Israel is indeed a socialist country. Let them cut these services and fund their military. Instead of relying on US aid.

David1964's avatar

First of all, Mamdani, AOC, and their fellow parasites in the DSA hive “advocate” for a hell of a lot more than the things you listed - governmental control of every aspect of life from the cradle to the grave, for example. Israel is for the most part an economically stable, prosperous, and largely capitalist country that also funds a number of social programs. There’s an enormous difference. So either you don’t know what you’re talking about or you’re simply lying.

These are all welfare programs and not socialism. Socialism is government control of the means of production of goods and services. It is communism light. There is no socialism with a capitalistic economic system. Under socialism, the government creates the illusion of economic freedom while it suppresses all economic freedom. The old "look at the socialist programs" trope is a red herring all socialists/communists use, and it is completely dishonest. It is parroted by the weak-minded useful idiots. Socialism is in no way about helping people; it is about controlling people. With all of the history of socialism in the world, it is incredible that anyone can still fall for the grift. Socialists should absolutely be considered enemies of the United States.

RDH: Extremely well said!

David1964's avatar

It’s also hilarious to hear people like you braying about US aid to Israel, when you clearly know nothing about it, and don’t have even the vaguest idea of the ROI the U.S. gets - which, by the way, far surpasses the dollar amount of the aid that has your knickers in such a twist. Try to learn a few facts, instead of just obediently repeating the same bumper-sticker talking points that other dummies spoon-feed you.

Wake up, NYC!!

A little more than six months into his term, Zohran Mamdani and his wife have defended terrorists, called AIPAC "monsters," and supported groups whose mission is to destroy Israel. By doing this, he stands against millions of Jews and puts New York City's Jewish community at risk.

His poison is spreading, as seen in this week's Democratic primaries that elected rabidly anti-Israel nominees who demonize pro-Israel Jews and endanger all Jews.

The Jews I know tell me that Trump is behind all the antisemitism in the U.S., and they also tell me they are very concerned about the rise of anti-Islam sentiment in Europe. Some of them talk about leaving the U.S., but say they don't know where to go, "because Israel is so terrible." I have tried to gently question their beliefs about the sources of antisemitism in the U.S., but they get agitated and hostile like leftists always do when they think someone is "on the Other Side."

Rabbi Menachem Levine's avatar

Sad they are suffering from Cognitive Dissonance and lacking Jewish/Torah knowledge.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

As many others have pointed out, the people who have abandoned their traditional faiths have replaced them with the woke cult and its hatreds of the month.

Clever Pseudonym's avatar

Attempting to get Progressives to examine their sacred tribal dogma and to show them that their closed curated worldviews might be false and simplistic is basically like attempting a cult deprogramming.

They have been conditioned like lab rats to shout But Trump! anytime they feel the uncomfortable zap of cognitive dissonance, and entertaining opposing viewpoints feels almost physically painful for them and akin to blasphemy.

At this point they can't change or help themselves and have become an army of Ahabs whose entire existence is aimed at the destruction of their orange White Whale. They simply have no way to process the idea that someone who mouths any of their jargon may be dishonest or dangerous and seem to literally believe all evil emanates from him (and Netanyahu).

Like Ahab, they don't care who or what gets destroyed as long as their Satan does too.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

So true! It has gotten to the point that any conversation about any social problem gets interrupted by someone standing up and shouting, “And this is ALL DUE TO ONE MAN!!!” I don’t know what the leftists are going to do when Trump is out of office. Not only will they not be able to blame him for their collective tribal failures, they might not be able to hold together their collective identity.

Clever Pseudonym's avatar

I haven't seen anything like this in my life and struggle to find an historical parallel: Trump owns the minds and souls of his enemies maybe more than any other public figure in American history (not even Nixon hate or Clinton hate was this totalizing) and they are trapped in a reflexive position where no matter what he does, they must hate and oppose it. The Trump deranged make Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction" seem sane!

It seems to be some combo of his (um) abrasive obnoxious personality (being the greatest troll in history) and the media environment which has turned everyone into dopamine addicts desperate to get their next hit of simplistic hate pellets. The social media age plus tribalism plus Trump has turned people into rage zombies who have no control over their own brains or words.

Once he's gone media profits will be sliced in half and the Dem Party will be replaced by something much uglier....Jews are just the canary in the coalmine here, as they so often are.

Brian M's avatar

The Democrat party and its evil spawn, the DSA, do not believe in God. They believe in the ultimate power of government to decide the fate of people. Marxism has always had that core belief in "the state" over God, which is why religion is outlawed and religious leaders are jailed in communist states. That is the future Zohran Mamdani sees, though in his world, Sharia law will become the governing law of the land and all non-Muslims will be irradicated

Sandra Pinches's avatar

The embrace of Islam by the leftists is the most puzzling political phenomenon I have seen in my lifetime.

Paula Pinnell's avatar

They better wake up, study reality, and start voting red. They are the first casualty of DSA. White Americans are the very next after Jews.

I know what I’m doing

David1964's avatar

I don’t think she’s actually talked to very many well-informed and aware Jews, and that she simply made up most of the garbage she spouted.

Brian M's avatar

"The Jews I know".... I am Jewish. Just who do you know who believes Trump, someone who put his political life on the line for Israel and his friend Bibi Netanyahu, whose daughter and grandchildren are Jewish, is antisemitic?! And what Jews are concerned about the backlash against Islamic infiltration of Europe and the bias by European governments against the Caucasian Christian and Jewish indigenous? These are not Jews. These are only pretenders like Bernie Sanders and Scott Wiener

Sandra Pinches's avatar

All of the Jewish people I currently interact with are liberal or radical Democrats. They are on board with the entire leftist agenda and are currently anti-Netanyahu and anti-Israel. I don’t know how some of them have concluded that Trump is a major threat to Jews, or how they make sense out of this belief.

Brian M's avatar

Change your Jewish "friends". That is what I have done. You can not argue against irrational emotion that is void of any facts. They are brainwashed by the extremist social and broadcast media controlling the Democrat party. I just watched "1984", a movie about George Orwell's book made in 1984. It is the Democrat playbook: NewSpeak and relentless propaganda which will be accepted and believe, or else. The only irony is the Democrats are being taken down by the DSA, a truly Marxist entity, not the communist-lite of Democrat socialism since the 1930s.

Sandra Pinches's avatar

I completely agree. The change of friends is a decision that is being made on their side, but I don't really mind. I hope they eventually come out of the cult they are in, but I will no longer try to wake them up.

Brian M's avatar

Another point to argue with liberal Jews, if you must: The big "affordability gap" that is undeniable was created by socialist policies coming from COVID19. The Federal govt, including Trump and the mainstream Republicans, threw caution to the wind and shut down the economy based on the shaky science (and corruption) of Anthony Fauci. To keep the economy from collapsing into a great depression, America went full-on socialist with direct transfers from the government to the people without regard to constrained supply. We quickly (late 2021 into 2022) got into an inflationary scenario of "too much money chasing too few goods. That drove prices for the basics like housing, transportation and food through the roof. We can safely say that the socialist / Marxist policies of the COVID response are what crushed affordability for the middle and lower economic classes. We just tried socialism and it failed. What don't the DSA understand about that?!

Sandra Pinches's avatar

One line from the Covid era I remember well is when Pelosi said, with a broad smile, "The government will take care of us."

Brian M's avatar

A preview. As Rahm Emanuel said: let no crisis go to waste. The Dems saw COVID as the perfect chance to roll out their socialist agenda (not quite communist, since mainstream Dems still like capitalism). They more or less forced Trump's cabinet to accept their agenda as it was an election year. I am still convinced that China intentionally released the manmade virus to prevent Trump from getting another term and accelerate their ascendance to the top of the world order.

David1964's avatar

Either you don’t know very many Jews, or you’re listening to a very few really foolish and clueless Jews, you’re listening to non-Jews who tell you “how Jews really feel,” or you just made up everything you wrote.

I was telling a friend that "American exceptionalism" is the idea that anyone who comes here, works hard, and plays by the rules can make it in America, like my family and I have since we arrived in 1976. You are not defined by your ancestry or socioeconomic status the way you are in many other parts of the world. Ironically, something that Mamdani will never admit is that it is the Christian worldview that America was founded on that makes this possible. Christianity teaches that "there is neither Jew nor Greek [ethnicity], slave nor free [socioeconomic status], for you are all one in Christ Jesus." American exceptionalism would never be possible in Mamdani's Islamic worldview. There is not a single Islamic society where you can become anything you want regardless of your ethnicity or socioeconomic status. Even in a moderate Islamic country like the UAE, Indian workers are an underclass.

Laveaux420's avatar

Good to see another Gen X-er :) I think what you said about American Exceptionalism resonates with just about everyone- recent immigrant or 'Plymouth Rocker'. You are not defined by your ancestry or socioeconomic status- not 'what you were born' but 'who you work to be'. and I don't mean just work in the sense of a job, I mean the kind of person and the life that you aspire to. I think many people forget that we are free to make choices that either further what we want to be or don't.

George Cervenka's avatar

America is a secular nation, that is what is the good about America.

GenXinCali's avatar

It has no official religion, but it is definitely built on a Christian foundation. That is indisputable as a matter of history.

George Cervenka's avatar

America was the first nation to enshrine the right of the individual to his life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness. Those are principles of the Enlightenment.

GenXinCali's avatar

That doesn't mean it has no Christian foundation. The First Amendment only means that the US will have no state church comparable to the Church of England. It has NEVER meant that the US will be a religion-free society. Mikey Weinstein would like you to think that was the case, but it simply is not.

George Cervenka's avatar

You are free to believe what you wish, or not to subscribe to any religious belief, at all. That is what it means to live in a secular nation.

GenXinCali's avatar

You are trying to rewrite the history of this nation. It is historically false to say that this nation is a purely secular nation with no religious foundation, specifically a Christian religious foundation. The two statements are not incompatible: 1) America has no "official" religion; 2) America has an unmistakably Christian religious history to it. Read the Federalist Papers, for example, to see how the Framers used a Christian understanding of human nature to construct the Constitution the way they did. See Federalist 51: "But the great security against a gradual concentration of the several powers in the same department, consists in giving to those who administer each department the necessary constitutional means and personal motives to resist encroachments of the others. The provision for defense must in this, as in all other cases, be made commensurate to the danger of attack. Ambition must be made to counteract ambition. The interest of the man must be connected with the constitutional rights of the place. It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself." It is impossible to read this and deny that the Founders were informed by a Christian understanding of human nature in setting up the government as they did.

Laveaux420's avatar

That is one of the best things about America! I know many people argue that it is a Christian nation, and it's true that we have a history of having many Christians, but we were not set up as a Christian nation. Not being a Christian, that's great for me! :)

Sandra Pinches's avatar

Unfortunately, this kind of self-flagellating hating of America, capitalism, freedom, and Western values is what the Democrats think of as a party. They have become very negative generally in their outlook and their expression, verbally and otherwise. The Democrats I know who attend church and synagogue services listen to hateful sermons just like what Mamdani delivered, and come out of the experience feeling very good about themselves and bad about the rest of us.

Operator Dawn's avatar

We need new churches and call out the bad ones so people know whats going on behind closed doors

Yes, we need churches, synagogues and spiritual gatherings that focus on love and worship of the Spirit and of each other.

Islam and marxism are on the rise. They have joined forces. But they must realize that the two can not co-exist-they will end up eating each other. I have said this here and on other substacks/podcats--my liberal friends have no clue, they do not see, they have their blinders on and follow like sheep. All the normies out there (not the die-hard Republicans or MAGA), the conservative Democrats, liberal Republicans, Independents who took the red pill and voted for Trump need to vote in the primaries. If the far left win, it will get ugly. Thank you Batya for your wisdom and common sense.

I know that America is the greatest country on this earth and Canada was pretty great too, but we are flailing now as these people keep trying to fix what wasn’t broken. I now want to be American and I will assimilate into your culture because I have seen the greatness of your country and I want to contribute to that.

Right now in the UK we have a similar problem developing, the growth of the Islamo-red Green Party under the leadership of Zack Polanski, a true Watermelon party, green on the outside, deep red on the inside, ostensibly drawing irreconcilable extreme gender ideology and extreme anti Zionist strands together, but doomed to failure as the Islamist wing eats the progressive wing.

That's not to say terrible damage will be done along the way in trying to reconcile Pride and Hamas.
