We're not seeing a multi-racial working-class uprising. We're seeing privileged white gentrifiers organizing a politics of resentment driven by a hatred of America.
Your analysis is spot on. But isn’t this the historical pattern for Marxist revolution? Next comes the recruitment of the so-called working class, convincing its individual members that their personal disappointments are the result of huge external forces—capitalists, conservatives,Jews—that can only be overcome by radical, collective action. Unfortunately, arguments contrary to this siren song are weak and diffused.
Have you ever read the road to Wigan pier? By George Orwell. He was a communist until he spent time with the truly downtrodden working class. They rejected communism as well. Apparently they are smarter than almost any PhD student.
It’s his best book. I know the area he focuses on having grown up in the Wirral in the 1950s and 1960s. This is now an area of abandoned mills and warehouses which used to clothe the world using cotton grown in the confederate states which explains the support of the confederate states which emanated from parts of Britain such as Lancashire and Cheshire. When Gandhi visited this part of England he was expecting a hostile reception because of his support for Indian women to return to the distaff and spindle and return to looming their own cloth fabric in order to make their own clothes rather than import them from this part of England. In fact he was greeted enthusiastically by many mill workers because of his efforts to reduce poverty and improve the lot of rural Indians; workers lined up in the hope they might get to shake his hand. Where I grew up the Conservatives didn’t even make any attempt to compete but instead focussed on the one wealthy area, Bebbington and Upper Bebbington. However, the Marxist class warriors who have never been a part of the working classes need the proletariat to be the foot soldiers of the revolution. Give them their head so that they can spectacularly fail and then try to explain why they failed. I guarantee they will attempt lay the blame on the working classes.
But they can’t recruit the working class because they despise them. So this is something other than a blueprint for a Marxist revolution. Rosa Luxembourg famously said something like, the only power we (proletariat) have is our numbers, we have to build the numbers. Today’s DSA don’t do that.
I just watched a podcast called Dad Saves America where he at his guest discuss the downfall of Harvard but they also talk about the French revolution. I now understand the roots of the intellectual resentment. Makes really good sense. It is always the over credentialed downwardly mobile intellectuals that start this shit. Never the working class.
Marx did a great deal of the research and initial writing of Das Kapital in the reading room of the British museum. Since Britain was the home of the Industrial Revolution he saw the British proletariat as the revolutionary force necessary to bring down capitalism. Of course, he had never worked a day in his life and betrayed a complete misunderstanding of the British working classes. He was buried in Highgate cemetery in North London and his body was later disinterred to lay mummified in the Kremlin.
There are more than Fetterman and now they will coalesce against these Marxist mongrels, but I’m afraid it may very well be too late at least for the Democratic Party
More than Fetteman? They could maybe fill a phone booth, with space left over. The woke mob is ruthlessly tyrannical in hounding dems who dare cross them.
If you wanted to destroy the United States politically and its way of life you’d be for an open border allowing millions of indigent, uneducated, hyper religious who have no interest in assimilating, remove the police, remove prisons, allow crime to be rampant, indoctrinate children on transgenderism. You’d want to censor anyone who doesn’t agree with you and you’d blame the Jews and Israel for everything else. Finally you’d say merit is racist and eliminate all forms of merit. That’s the DSA, that’s who the current democrat party supports and it is rapidly becoming. Their shock troops are the over educated yet under performing economic class of white, guilt ridden, angry, virtue signaling aggrieved who suffer from TDS driven ‘mass formation psychosis’. It’s tough to make a living with your gender studies, native studies, women’s studies, queer studies and sociology degrees.
Many of these parents are from my generation, the hippies from the 60s who never got over their own version of Marxism and not only infected their kids but then sent them on to the madrassas of higher education at Harvard, Yale, Smith, Amherst etc etc.
The only thing that will stop these hate-filled lunatics is the very people they claim to be fighting for. As Ruy Teixeira has shown, the working class in this country — including Black and Latino working class— are not buying what these lunatics are selling.
Good Lord 14 years on a PhD? I research with pasture cattle and wrote a Masters Thesis. Then I went to Neb. and did research on acidosis in feedyard cattle and wrote a Dissertation. Did all that in 6 years. This person must really be retarded or something.
Excellent post!👍👍 With any luck, the DSA will bring about the splintering of the Democratic Party, isolating the crazies in a small, irrelevant party while the sane Dems regroup and go forward.
Or they could run the table and take over the Federal Government - especially if the stock market has a really bad year right before a presidential election. Depending on luck to get a favorable outcome is usually foolish.
It’s ironic that the well-off, highly ‘educated’ voters will be the first lined up against the wall when the revolution comes. New Yorkers are about to find out that you can vote communism in, but you’ll need Snake Pliskin to get you out.
As goes NYC, so goes NYC. (Perhaps LA and Seattle too.) And I don’t care. Contra Matt Walsh, it isn’t the greatest American city. It really isn’t an American city at all and hasn’t been for a very long time. It is worth noting that one of the Democrat establishment figures that lost was the counsel for the Trump impeachment. I shed no tears for him. Getting the populist Left to focus on economics would be a win.
Interestingly both myself and my liberal-progressive dad agreed NYC is not American in any meaningful way lol. It’s its own entity. Sided with the brits in the Revolution, and the confederacy during the civil war lol. Whacky, zany place.
Your thesis aligns with the theories of Peter Turchin, who postulates that it is always overproduction of elites that causes societies to implode from within.
I haven't actually seen any evidence that downwardly mobile college educated white people are voting for far left Democrats any more than the more affluent ones. That said, I do think "couldn't finish her Ph.D., got elected to Congress instead" says something pretty significant about the nature of our political class in 2026.
Even the "affluent" ones may not be doing as well as they appear, especially if they carry high debt loads, and it is natural for people to identify with others in their own social class.
Well, the right has it in their heads that the DSA is a bunch of gender studies graduates bitter that they aren't making as much as the presumably Republican-voting finance bros. I'm not quite sure that's what's going on here.
I don't think it has anything to do with how much the finance bros make. They are bitter because they, as a class, aren't making anywhere near what they believe they are entitled to make, or have the status or social standing they believe they are entitled to.
Really great analysis. The other factor that heavily influences contemporary socialists who identify as Democrats (Democratic socialist or Social democrat -- who knows?) aside from their affinity to LARPing Palestinian terrorist on campus and on weekends is that they carry massive debt: Student loan debt, auto loan debt, and mortgage debt. They hope to find a final solution to their debt problem via robust government action.
That is exactly why the Biden regime pandered so much by trying to forgive all student loans, and why they didn't give up after losing in court once or twice.
I manage a mining operation in Alaska and that one issue grated on my crewmembers more than anything at the time. They were rightly pissed that there they were, working their butts off, and they were going to have to pay off the debts that the borrowers were going to be relieved of. Too many young people don't understand debt. They don't know that most fundamental truth of debt: All debts are paid. Either by the borrower or by the lender and in the case of student loans and federally guaranteed mortgages, the taxpayer is the lender.
Keep telling the truth clearly, Batya. But beg the Republicans to put forward legislation, that reduces the regulations, over-spending and cronyism that drives prices up. When the government subsidies for the 'poor' it drives up the price for all!
You are so spot on. I listened to you on an Honestly podcast years ago and have been following you ever since. I love hearing your take on politics. You, more than anyone, raise really interesting—and new!— perspectives that need to be heard.
"Avila Chevalier swept white voters — 61% to Espaillat’s 39%, according to VoteHub, a nonpartisan political media organization. White residents represent just 15% of the district, Census data shows."
The DSA has an impressive ground game and got their supporters to the polls. The Organized Crime Democrats were sleeping or on vacation. 40% of the states have yet to hold primaries, and most of the upcoming ones are in August or September (AZ is the only one in July). If DSA candidates are running in these late primaries, we could witness many big upsets.
I was wondering what might happen in the Virginia primaries. After that gerrymandering debacle, Gov. Spambarfer publicly said she was worried that there would be low turnout in the primaries. Turns out she need not have worried - most primary challengers to incumbent Congressional Democrats did not make the ballot (it requires 1000 valid signatures) - with the sole exception of my district (8th), where Beyer has 4 challengers. I can't tell if any of them are DSA candidates, but they are all pretty far to the Left, including the incumbent. Turnout is likely to be very low, since there is no Democratic primary contest for any statewide office, only Federal offices are being contested, and the only Congressional race with same-party challengers is the 8th. Will Don Beyer lose?
DSA grifters campaign solely on affordability issues to get elected, then pivot to wokeness as soon as they’re in office. They want you to think late 2010s wokeness is gone. It’ll come roaring back with a vengeance post-Trump.

Yes, exactly.
Yes, it is always the Intelligentsia that is the Vanguard of Communism.
This new Squad will be God’s gift to Republican fundraising and meme creators everywhere. Fetterman is the ONLY dem talking any sense whatsoever.
I believe you are wrong. The RNC will not get any money from me ever again. Gang of 14, McConnell, Ryan & now Thune to name just a few.
I donate directly to candidates now
There are more than Fetterman and now they will coalesce against these Marxist mongrels, but I’m afraid it may very well be too late at least for the Democratic Party

He might run for President. He will lose of course, bu he might make it interesting.

Completely agree! I'm also angry at the parents of the over educated, under performing spoiled brats who have created the mass madness.
Many of these parents are from my generation, the hippies from the 60s who never got over their own version of Marxism and not only infected their kids but then sent them on to the madrassas of higher education at Harvard, Yale, Smith, Amherst etc etc.
It’s all happened, just read their writings.
The only thing that will stop these hate-filled lunatics is the very people they claim to be fighting for. As Ruy Teixeira has shown, the working class in this country — including Black and Latino working class— are not buying what these lunatics are selling.
The Black working class certainly isn't voting Republican either, as they depend too much on Democrat patronage.
Good Lord 14 years on a PhD? I research with pasture cattle and wrote a Masters Thesis. Then I went to Neb. and did research on acidosis in feedyard cattle and wrote a Dissertation. Did all that in 6 years. This person must really be retarded or something.
More likely grew comfortable in the role of "professional student": poor in material possessions, rich in self certainty, devoted to a "cause".
And dumb as a box of rocks.
Ruminant Nutrition. Also quite a lot of biochemistry. And some Monogastric Nutrition.

😂😂😂
“ over credentialed white gentrifiers”. So nail on the head. And it kills me that so many are Jewish . The ones turning on Israel bc of politics.

Agree it’s a multicultural shithole blending fecal matter on a daily basis.
Your thesis aligns with the theories of Peter Turchin, who postulates that it is always overproduction of elites that causes societies to implode from within.
Except that there's nothing 'elite' about most of them.

I guess I just haven't seen evidence that income is a determinant of how white people are voting.
Really great analysis. Why is that the responsibility of the federal government?
A 50-year mortgage would be very unwise. Bad idea.
Keep telling the truth clearly, Batya. But beg the Republicans to put forward legislation, that reduces the regulations, over-spending and cronyism that drives prices up. When the government subsidies for the 'poor' it drives up the price for all!

NY-13, the district you are writing about, is 15% white
idiot
What was the turnout though.
About 20% of registered Democrats.
But if the turnout was only 20% of the total and 60% of that was the white vote then white voters elected the winners.
The fact that the district is 85% nonwhite doesn’t matter. Those who vote choose.
According to the NYP:
"Avila Chevalier swept white voters — 61% to Espaillat’s 39%, according to VoteHub, a nonpartisan political media organization. White residents represent just 15% of the district, Census data shows."

It appears white voters then must have been the largest cohort in the turn out.
