Having previously listened only to clips, at your urging I listened to the entire speech. It’s been a long time since we’ve had an American leader able to articulate credibly and without apology a vision for our Western allies. Intelligent, inclusive, scholarly. I hope it’s not too late.

Agree about Rubio‘s brilliance, but it was basically the same policy and the same message as JD Vance’s , just wrapped in a beautiful package of shared understanding, values and heritage – – which of course was the backdrop last year as well for JD Vance. I would say that we have just watched a bad cop/good cop routine. If Rubio had made this speech last year the Euros wouldn’t have listened. Now they are relieved. JD Vance placed great emphasis on protecting freedom of speech, but Rubio doesn’t need to speak about that this year because he has already implemented a policy of turning back travelers to the United States if they have engaged in censorship in Europe.

Agreed. Vance's speech was a necessary wake-up call.

Let's go with that good cop bad cop scheme. While I might prefer Rubio greatly over Vance in '28, Vance got the better assignment giving the lecture on (no longer) shared values. The wording wasn't aimed at convincing the rulers at the Munich conference, really, but at the people who elect European gov'ts. Right wing gov'ts have controlled immigration and (hopefully) won't criminalize dissident speech. Left wing gov'ts have ruined their economies with the Climate Hoax and can't afford Armadas.

Can Europe still be fixed, or is it irrevocably set towards a caliphate? I thought J.D.'s speech last time indicated Trump viewed them as a continent going dark.

Great work Batya. For myself, both speeches needed to be said and heard.

Very well said and presented. I have your hardback book. The one with Fire hole in front. And I dis listen to and watch Rubio’s speech on the day/ night. You know the agendas of The Club of Rome and Sierra Club. Etc.

Fortunately, some people want to leave the world a better place. Thanks again.

Rubio was one of my early favorites way back in the 2016 cycle but i ultimately found him a bit hawkish for my tastes and went over to the LP for a couple of rounds before coming back to Team Red last year. I find myself more aligned with Rubio these days, not so much because he's moved towards me but because I've moved back towards his views on things, largely because I've hardened on immigration and because China scares the shit out of me.

Rubio or Vance or AOC. Three different visions for america and the free world. But what do the American people want? Same for thd citizens of western Europe, Japan, India, Australia and other ( at this moment) free countries. Make no mistake: while there is overlap between Vance and Rubio there are clear differences. And those differences need to be discussed without emotion or exaggeration. We all know where AOC and Newsom and Khanna stand. Just as we knew where Obama stood ( at least after he was elected and the gloves were off). But it is anything but clear what the American people want, especially those who will actually vote ( unclear just how informed or educated they will be with respect to these matters). Stay tuned. This is just the first inning.

A brilliant speech indeed.

I want Rubio as the 2028 candidate vs Vance. Marco can win.

What is 'America First' about bombing Iran back to the Stone Age? America First focuses on job creation on *OUR* shores, doesn't it? The **ONLY** jobs added to our economy last month were "healthcare" (re: home health aide shit paying back-breaking) jobs and why? Because of the ICE crackdown. so you were right about something BUA...

Methinks you underestimated the speech, maybe intentionally, to avoid talking about the why of the speech. To whom was it directed? Europe? I don't think so. Europe, the venue, was the soapbox from where Marco spoke. By the way, I have a feeling that the speech was written by Stephen Miller. Marco isn't smart enough to be Churchill-esque with language. Miller has pretty, pretty, pretty good timing. He measured the wave well. This speech was a compass speech. It is offering a direction for those with the courage and lack of guilt to follow. The speech talks "the West", culture, and Europe but they are all euphemisms for the W-word. The W-word wave that only recently began to break is a result of Grievance Culture Fatigue and the sheer absurdity of Woke. Hey, can you believe it? It's now OK to be White for real not just on a t-shirt. Miller realizes that at the core, MAGA is a paleoconservative movement, and that unless the movement plays the racial chord, it will fizzle in the midterms and in 2028. The W-word, even if used behind the veil of the West, will bring out white voters, not the 30% who hate themselves but the middle 20% who simply ride the wave.

Rubio’s speech was brilliant, magisterial.

Will it make any difference that it was more conciliatory towards Europe than Vance’s?

I very much doubt it. The forces of European progressivism are too broadly and deeply entrenched.

Furthermore the elite classes sense the danger they’d be in, should a majority of Europeans change their views at this point, and see mass migration as anything other than an enlightened policy.

What is your thought on him using "Christian" several times instead of "Judeo-Christian" which usually used as the roots of western civilization?

I like and admire both men. Europe needs to hear both their messages: a rebuke not just of past mistakes but of those ongoing along with showing Europe a shared path forward. Snap them out of their complacency followed by a helping hand to guide them to a better place. The reality this addresses is that our shared values are diminishing each day. Vance and Rubio are offering help before we really do reach the breaking point.
