Affordability means to each voter "what i need/want to buy." It's different for everyone. Laws to push back the tide in one domain raise prices elsewhere. So any substantive legislation is automatically a win lose deal.

On the issue of ICE and the Jackassery's proposal of abolishing ICE, what do they propose to replace it with? Are they just going do away with immigration law altogether? If they do, citizenship will lose its value and Obama's goal of constructing an America that no one would defend will be achieved.
The politicians are not in office to “serve the public.” They are not the sort of people who serve anyone, unless the act is a quick means to personal power and wealth. And the Democrats have joined the broader mass madness movement that is sweeping Western Civilization down the drain.

Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution gives the U.S. House of Representatives the "power of the purse" - the ability to designate government expenditures. The executive branch (headed by the President) is tasked with spending that money and can make requests and give proposed budgets, but the House is where the budgets initiate.
Unless and until the President gets a "line-item veto" the ultimate responsibility for budgets belongs to the U.S. House. As such, you need to look at who is in control of the House if you want to understand the Debt and Deficits.
Both parties have played a major role in increasing the debt and that the pace in which the debt has increased and is increasing should be a concern for every American, but the idea that Dems are better for the economy and Reps are worse is actually the opposite of what the actual data reveals.

The HIGHEST stretch of increase was under Democratic leadership from 2007-2010 where the increase was 7.28% per year. ALL THREE stretches in the modern era where the Democratic party was in control of the house (1980-1994, 2007-2010, and 2019-22) were higher than the highest similar stretch in which the Republicans were in control of the house (1.5% for this current house from 2023-2025). (In other words even the worst period of Republican control was better than the best period of Democratic control).
So, perhaps you should look a little deeper into which party has more of a bad impact on the National Debt - the Democrats are clearly worse for the National Debt and it isn't even really that close.
