One problem w so many of today’s celebrities is that so many, like JFKJr, have never done anything. Back in the day wasn’t a celebrity someone of high achievement? Nowadays you can be a spouse or a child of such, and that’s enough. The son of a top soccer player, the daughter of a famous lawyer, the niece of a presidential candidate, the wife of a royal, etc. People only distinguished by being related to someone.

As a former private aviation practitioner, I remind every pilot that the most important decision is to take off. We used a mantra: Takeoffs are optional, landing is mandatory. John made a fatal mistake in deciding to take off into conditions he should have realized that he was not competent to handle.

Can we be done with the Kennedyzzzzzzz?…

They’re a snooze fest. Most over hyped family in America politics. Old Joe made all his $$$ bootlegging during Prohibition. Look it up.

Oh Joe Kennedy was a fucking Nazi

J.D Vance was a dirt-poor hillbilly from nowhere and managed not only to succeed in politics, but not kill his wife. Just sayin'.

Thank you, Batya, for your common sense and fine writing!

This is one show that I will avoid...

This show, Aliens and Beauty have all been crap. The last good show FX had was Shogun.

Thank you. I have been watching EL ENCARGADO from Argentina (on Disney+), and waiting for a new season. It presents the guy in charge of a building of rich people as a sort of nice guy who is really nasty and doing everything to keep his position and getting read of anybody who is against him. From here, I went back to Kennedy and Bessette from photos people have shared for years, when I see a sort of American royalty I can think of many sons, daughters, nephews, etc. that have been surfacing in the political arena and they have nothing to offer but a name. The 90s or the 80s, etc., were not an innocent time, we didn’t have social media then. We had to rely on media whose corruption was well hidden and that didn’t give us a lot of variety for consumption. Today, things that were celebrated appear as irrelevant. That is because they actually were and are irrelevant. The good taste of the audience was always dismissed, today we can actually dismiss fake options for meaningful things. Thank you.

John-John was just another empty $10,000 suit. DC and Hollywood are full of them.

You are 100% accurate Batya!!! Ascension to failure… reward for failures!!! You’ve expressed something that long needed to be said… and should be a continuing reminder of “what not to be” as a human being!

Batya, I would call your article a "righteous take down." Were you ever a wrestler?🤼😂

"Someone as unimpressive as John F. Kennedy Jr. would have had a great shot at being president purely as a result of being a member of the closest thing America has to royalty."

Wow! What great, insightful, writing. Thanks for watching it for me. Now I can get on to better things.

It appears RFK Jr. is the one who should have brought the torch forward. I can tell you he really impressed me as a flawed - but great man. His interviews, while he was running for President, filled with recollections from his front row seat to history, were absolutely riveting. His decisions, capped by throwing his support to Trump, were flawless, given his options.

JFK was the President I was born under. I've studied him intensely and until Trump, he was my favorite. However, Trump is more courageous, has a greater intellect and a greater ability to strategize. What he's doing in Iran (et al) is the only way we could have averted future nuclear conflagration at their hands. And if it goes well, he's setting the table for generational peace. Alas, he can't communicate like a Kennedy. I sure wish he could.

Even with the Kennedy name -- even if he were not the son of a martyred US President-- it's hard to imagine the same public fixation on JFK, Jr. (and whoever he would have married) had the John John of America's collective memory grown up to be an average looking guy. Mere days after he died, in an interview for Salon Magazine, Camille Paglia discussed "John's amazing luminosity", aptly observing, "...His physical conformation was absolutely remarkable. What a specimen of human breeding!... Human beauty of this magnitude automatically confers power." (The 'strange magic' of JFK Jr., Salon Magazine, July 23, 1999).

lol, leave it ta gay wit-crit Camille to nail it! John John not only wuz luminous but charmin', kind, charismatic.... notta dud. I know one person that knew him from college an' said he was absolootly "bright" if not a powerhouse intellect. Bein' an act-truss m'self (as young'uns...an' beyond....), we often work caterin' gigs so I knew a couple fellow performers that worked some parties he & Carolyn attended an' they said more 'er less THIS:

John John wuz gracious/flirtatious/charismatic, but she wuz deeply shy (mismatch!). But/too, in front of others (socially) they insinuated/snapped/snarked at each other in a way made others (& mah fellow wait-persons) feel uncomfy-cringe, like even as "servers," they'd walked in on sumthin' not fer prime time an' faintly ugly that should'a been kept private.

I do write in the vernacular but I know mah onions ;-)--an' as ye shared, John John wuz quite the looker, not a garden variety type--indeed fer us gals at least--QUITE the "specimen of human breedin'! " "(arguably the best lookin' Kennedy)...

The man had no instrument rating and it's a flight he should have not made. Too close to dark.

That said he might've been the real-life model for Drew Baird in 30 Rock.

Ted Kennedy keeps showing up to remind us of Mary Jo Kopechne, and how he killed her. That’s my take away from the whole damn show.

I see all these names in positions of power Pritzker so many others where ancestors made the money and influence and their offspring are riding that wave to the detriment of many of us. I include Kushner in that list.
