this is reductive, check ur own misogyny

I find this the abject opposite of reductive. Great piece.

Lena Dunham sexually molested her own sister. And bragged about it in her autobiography. I'm not listening to anything this Jabba-the-hut sex offender has to say.

Yep. I can’t even hear her name without thinking about her molesting her own sister. If a male actor admitted to molesting a sibling, what would happen to him? Would Variety be interviewing him?

Dunham is a privileged nepo baby whose work is appreciated by a small number of individuals. The majority of people I know would reply with only one word if you mentioned Dunham’s name:

“Who?”

R.G. Camara's avatar

It's pretty strange and telling that the one sin you can commit in Hollywood and be welcomed back again and again involves molesting kids. Lena Dunham, Bryan Singer, Victor Salva, etc. Almost like Hollywood doesn't consider it evil and wrong.

None's avatar

It’s what I associate her with.

EdithKS's avatar

Dunham was SEVEN YEARS OLD and barely even playing doctor (have you ever been a curious child?) — and her sibling says no abuse took place.

None's avatar

You mean her transmasculine nonbinary sibling Cyrus who used to go by the name of Grace? I’ll leave it to you to read books by that family. I’m not going there.

Steenroid's avatar

A four letter word came to my mind.

EdithKS's avatar

Then don't comment on things you know nothing about at all. You seem to have egg farts for brains, my dear. This whole post is so, so dumb.

None's avatar

It must get really lonely being you.

None's avatar

Yet another skill you’ve mastered, Edith! The dumb one. You’re really rocking and rolling now.

Andrew's avatar

Can a 7 year old be a 'sex offender'?

EdithKS's avatar

People keep repeating this as if they know what they are talking about, not even realizing they are talking about an anecdote from when Lena was SEVEN YEARS OLD and that both she and her sibling have said no abuse took place. You sound really stupid calling a story about 7-year-old who was barely “playing doctor” a story about a sexual predator. Do you have absolute shit for brains?

You mean her transmasculine nonbinary sibling Cyrus? I’ll let you read the books these people put out. And when it comes to shit for brains, I know you speak from experience, Edith.

Same, but the size of her body has nothing to do with her being vile.

None's avatar

I didn’t say anything about the size of her body.

Mimzy Borogroves's avatar

Dunham is a sick person trying to refrain perversion as art. I wish people would ignore her. She's a social icon of the LookAtMe blue haired wookies.

Stephen Johnson's avatar

I didn’t read Dunham’s quotes here as outing him or throwing him under the bus. None of this is particularly surprising or likely to have negative repercussions on his career.

Dianna's avatar

seems like a reaction from someone who barely read the quotes and didn't read the book. I mean Lena has been problematic as far as an unlikable radical feminist can be, but if you're going to critique her where she is her strongest, in her writing, you should at least engage with the context before offering a written opinion on it.

Dianna's avatar

Which allegations have destroyed men's careers and where? Chris Brown just booked a concert in my city. Trump is still president. No one except a woman sit in jail for the Epstein files. But sure.

Dianna's avatar

This wasn't a sexual assault allegation- it was DV which is a different subject

Dianna's avatar

And upon inspection this doesn't even prove your point because this man is still working as a baller so his career is fine. The charges were dropped. And he went on to get a DUI- what a stand-up guy!

Asebtar #StopIndianHate's avatar

What does the DUI have anything to do with it? Anyways he was falsely accused and did face stigma. His career trajectory would have been far better without it https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/nba-dante-cunningham-struggles-to-clear-name/

Asebtar #StopIndianHate's avatar

It's funny how you guys talk about how we shouldn't doubt victims cause they are not the"perfect victims" but for victims of false allegations - no such grace is shown. Like for god sakes - his wife sent fake messages to herself with threats, she alleged he had kicked in a door even tho she had talked with another person saying he had kicked the door some days ago cause he had been locked. What more proof do you need?

Dianna's avatar

In a world where 98.9% of all sexual assault preparators walk free and never even face charges and those that do serve minimal sentences if at all. So please spare me with this bullshit. The vast majority of predators walk free. The vast majority of accusations are true. Mr. Tate is walking around still with his million dollar career after raping and trafficking women. So fuck all the way off with this.

Asebtar #StopIndianHate's avatar

Avg sentence for those convicted of rape seems be above 10 years in UK as of 2021. I would prefer higher, including death penality if 100% proven to have done the deed, but wont call it minimal https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-09-14/debates/3EBA342C-1391-4B01-BD85-181A604FDFB6/SentencesForRape

Dianna's avatar

Oh no not stigma! His life is "ruined" in your eyes where he continues to play a sport professionally and never even went to court, moving on and doing fine all things considered.

Meanwhile, women are brutally violated and psychologically if not physically damaged for the remainder of their lives and convicts barely serve time across the board. The vast majority are never even seen in court in the first place.I know because I see and work in domestic violence law. Do you?

The DUI matters because he clearly does not give af about the safety of others while he carelessly puts everyone else at risk driving drunk. Youre bouncing on the dick of a loser.

Asebtar #StopIndianHate's avatar

Ik different country data but in US, rape convicts serve a larger part of their sentence than even murder convicts (68% vs 58%, avg is 44%) https://bjs.ojp.gov/library/publications/time-served-state-prison-2018?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Asebtar #StopIndianHate's avatar

As for walk free...wouldn't it be more traumatic for an actual victim to go through the investigation, trial etc than a false accuser. I think false accusers might even have an advantage when it comes to leading to conviction of the accused. Anyways the percentage of cases proven true without reasonable doubt, and those proven to be false - well both are very comparable small percentages. Rest of the cases are in a limbo where they are neither proven true, nor proven false. Everything else is speculation by (honestly pretty leftist) researchers

Cannot abide Lena Dunham. I’ll make a point of going to see every Adam Driver movie that come out for the next 5 years.

Carlotta Valdez's avatar

Your position can’t genuinely be, “she liked his charisma at audition, so she can’t get mad when he throws a chair at her.”

Narcissists can draw people in and later become completely unsafe and unmanageable. My mother paired up with a man very much like Driver. People loved his energy. Women went nuts for him. And then that energy became violent and scary.

Pamela Shamir's avatar

Narcissist extraordinaire Lena Dunham strikes again! I personally never saw her appeal and I found Girls to be as cloying an anti-Sex-in-the-City recasting as every other millennial anti-hero presentation. She likes to think she's a great artist and thinker, but she's just a mean girl of mumblecore. Here's the thing that every actor knows; the one with the power is the writer/director/producer. In this case, she held every card. What Adam Driver did was act. All of this was done on set, not in some sneaky backroom. And he was method playing a jerk - a character SHE WROTE! For her to revise the "power dynamic" is absurd.

Isabelle Elena's avatar

Wow, the misogyny and victim-blaming in this article are rank. What a juvenile understanding of consent. Is it so very unreasonable to believe that Dunham might have thought Adam Driver was ACTING in his audition and not playing HIMSELF? And consequently thought the person he brought to the scene would not bleed into the context around it? Dunham is also allowed to recognise that Driver was magnetic in-scene and a nightmare outside of it without either cancelling out the other. Two things can exist: she can appreciate that he can play a volatile, scary, toxic man, and struggle with the fact that he unfortunately turned out to just BE this person, rather than be PERFORMING them. What a concept: the art does not necessarily have to be a direct reflection of the life of the artist. When it is, it doesn't suddenly mean humans who are surprised by the overlap are naïve or "want to have their cake and eat it too", it means they have media literacy skills.

Rachel Stolzman Gullo's avatar

You are so lame- hiring someone for their raw energy or whatever is not a pass to be aggressive. Your writing feels like you just want eyeballs and don’t care what you say about people or if it’s anti women.

Mark's avatar

This feels like it was written for the zeitgeist that was 3 years ago, much like the Lindy West book it is trying to revive a feeling or vibe that no longer exists.

I have no idea who he is but he has to be the best actor in the universe to be able to pretend he was attracted to her

Batya, love you. This is why people in NYC should sometimes get out of NYC.

NO ONE cares what Lena Dunham thinks on ANY subject.

Chelsea's avatar

Sadly, not so - in fact, I was even informed by many that she was the voice of my generation!

Steve Marusich's avatar

Apparently. We can’t escape the black hole of LD.

Lena Dunham once said she'd never had an abortion, but wished she had. She'd never had a baby, either.

Does this sound like a woman who has anything of worth to offer?

Martin A. Allen's avatar

She’s not worth a moment of your valuable time Batya

Camille Paglia once described Lena Dunham as a " "self-pitying bore" and cited her as evidence of a decline in cultural standards. I couldn't agree more.
