I have a client who is an asylum officer and he told me once that somewhere around 96% of asylum claims don’t meet the criteria.

Batya Ungar-Sargon's avatar

That is wild. Thank you for sharing.

I remember Lindsey Graham asking Alejandro Mayorkas about that during a hearing - he said it was "upwards of 90%" and Mayorkas did not dispute the number.

JGL33433's avatar

And yet, the Ds are just fine with this nonsense. Amazing how far left they have gone - all because of their hatred for Trump.

Curlee's avatar

That's right. Asylum arguments are strict.

Look up the word apothrical

JoeyL's avatar

You mean "apocryphal"?

DB Time's avatar

I looked up "apothrical" and that's not a word. Google suggested you meant "apothical," which is "a French network of over 50 independent, pharmacist-owned pharmacies founded in 2016." So are you suggesting these economically-motivated illegals want free healthcare? I don't follow your argument here.

Valerie's avatar

Dictionary.com doesn’t recognize that word. Did you mean apocryphal? That means ‘of doubtful authorship or authenticity’ and I can assure you it’s exactly what he said.

Craig Harry's avatar

Exactly the word I was looking for Val

Valerie's avatar

I’ll give you the context. It was towards the end of the Biden admin and I asked him why there was such a long time that people claiming asylum had to wait for a hearing. That’s when he told me the vast majority don’t qualify for asylum because they’re economic migrants, the requirements for asylum are very limited, but they all get a hearing. And he mentioned around 96%z Even the ones that don’t qualify take at least 20 min.

In fact, he’s on my schedule for a massage tomorrow, any questions you want me to ask him? 😂

The modern Democrat has become a cancer to a moral society

JDDrouin's avatar

Ummm, almost but not quite. Let me correct that:

Democrats have been a cancer to a moral society since January 8, 1828.

Craig Harry's avatar

Is that your considered opinion?

Ryan Schwalen's avatar

My opinion is based on the fact that most of the violence seen in the media is being perpetrated by individuals and groups who support Democrats. It’s been mostly Democrats who have been shouting free Palestine and spreading anti-Semitism thru America.

Craig Harry's avatar

So anti-Indian and anti-Korean prejudice is as prevalent? Of course it isn't. Anti-semitism is grew from Christian resentment, not solely black resentment. The Church disallowed usury so money lenders were mostly Jewish because Judaism didn't have the same concerns. And btw the UK muslim population is around 6%. This ridiculous notion that the UK is a Muslim Caliphate is laughable. We have the misfortune to share the same language so bad political actors like to point to us and shout "look, this is what we may become". A stable democracy is such a bad thing?

JoeyL's avatar

1. "Is grew"?

2. Have you been to the UK recently, and have you been fortunate enough to not have experienced the preponderance of Muslim practice? To not have walked through crowds of Muslim men with a woman whose head was uncovered and whose clothing, while modest by western standards, was deemed inappropriate by those vagabonds?

Craig Harry's avatar

Predictive text can be a pain. I was born and live in the UK Joey, I live in Liverpool now but was born in East London when it was still very Jewish. The overwhelming majority of British people are oblivious to any muslims beyond possibly a doctor or a shopkeeper ( my wife's oncologist is called Haridass so I suspect he's a muslim but he's great to be honest). I can tell you authoritatively there is no sharia law (anymore than Beth Din courts in the UK make us subject to Jewish law). Its all arrant nonsense mate.

JoeyL's avatar

Fair point productive text, and my bad pointing it out. And (1) while I agree most Muslims are good people who integrate for the most part, and whose beliefs, while fervently held, are held without imposition on others, (2) there is a small but significant enough minority that maintain and impose beliefs and practices inconsistent with British (or western) values, primarily on those who profess Islam, and significantly enough on those who do not. In Acton, Heshu Yones was murdered by her father because he believed she had a boyfriend. Banaz Mahmod was killed in London, on orders of her father, after she'd left a violent forced marriage and started a relationship of her own choosing. In many of these cases, honor - not religion - is invoked...but that is a culture whose foundations are in Islam, so potato, po-tah-toe.

Craig Harry's avatar

Here's a fact Ryan. Nobody has a monopoly on good or evil. We're all a mess of contradictions. I grew up in East London when it was still a strongly Jewish area, I have lifelong friends who are Jewish. When I was growing up we all spoke about going on kibbutz. It sounded like socialism in action. I never did much to my regret. The question you probably should ask is, why do most Jews vote left of centre? I know the answer, can you bear to hear it?

JoeyL's avatar

Here's a fact, Craig. While you are right, and no one has a monopoly on good or evil, the fact is where Judaism seeks mostly to be left alone, and Christianity seeks to invite, Islam is often interpreted to require imposition on non-believers - and not just the belief, but the practice, if their hearts will not be swayed.

Craig Harry's avatar

I have to ask Joey, where did you study theology? That's a very precise take on the great Abrahamic religions

Ryan Schwalen's avatar

I’m willing to listen to anyone’s opinion.

Craig Harry's avatar

It is a centuries old civilisation that has suffered more from prejudice more than any other. When my Jewish friends meet the joke with each other "is your bag packed". They see Israel as the ultimate bolt hole but in the meantime (being by and large highly intelligent) they need to make alliances with other minorities. What happened to you Ryan?

Ryan Schwalen's avatar

I’ve seen a lot of hatred in America being perpetrated by supporters of Democrats. I do know hatred is on both sides but it needs to be called out.

JDDrouin's avatar

It's a fact ... except for the "modern" part, they've been like that from the get-go.

Ryan Schwalen's avatar

Yes this is my opinion and not fact.

Craig Harry's avatar

Opinions are like arseholes Ryan. Everybody has one

And in other news, ICE has arrested over 800 imported diseased illiterate illegal aliens during their support of TSA at America's airports ... thank you democrats!!!

The economic migrants could've taken the deal for self-deportation, $2600/person, over $10K for 4 people, not including free tickets. It might be a bit tricky now if they're charged with trafficking minors across the border.

One hoax persisting is that detention is equated to incarceration. Not really, unauthorized migrants can go home anytime. They're in detention for refusing to go home.

Kelly Green's avatar

I have progressive lawyer friends who volunteer pro bono to help craft bogus asylum claims for economic migrants. It's all very consciously gaming the system, which they justify with their shortsighted compassion.

If the Supreme Court rules that those that cross one foot over the border to file an asylum claim may be sent back instead of released until the claim is heard, it will be a massive game-changer.

Roberts has never been shy about twisting the law to get to whatever he decides is a just end so I actually think this is more likely than not.

Fascinating. Why the asylum claims are is irrelevant.

Still doesn't change the fact they used the kid as bait.

Elizabeth Rome's avatar

NO--not bait--they were trying to reunite the little boy with his mother anf father. What kind of parents are they?

IRG "U Can't" C Me's avatar

Sure ;) That's why they told the Mom to come outside. Could have just left him on the stoop and drove off.

Probably the same Stephen Miller “protocol” of instigating/provoking conflict with protestors.

Martin A. Allen's avatar

Right; and if ICE had done as you suggest “left him on the stoop and drove off” the media leftists would’ve screamed abandonment in the freezing cold.

IRG "U Can't" C Me's avatar

Nah. His mother was on the other side of the door of the residence. Would have let him in.

"Abandonment" would have been driving him across town and leaving him at a car wash or something.

Probably not the firsr time they've used a "bait kid," to, at the very least, provoke a confrontation per Stephen Miller's memo/orders.

Nah. Know how doors work at homes. But, if you think after ICE left, she would have just gone to bed and checked in the morning, ok.

JBell's avatar

No, they were simply trying to get the boy out of the weather and in contact with his family.

“A Better Life” is the title of Lionel Shriver’s latest book, about the migrant crisis in New York City. Shriver says she researched the immigration laws and the benefits being offered in the city at that time, to make it as true to life as possible. It’s a compelling story. A counterweight to the “American Dirt” perspective (also a compelling read).
