Batya, I don’t believe I (or many people) thought of illegal immigration as harming American workers until you wrote about it in “Second Class.” Thank you for caring about the people the elites don’t care about by telling their stories. Keep it up! 👊 🫡
Also, no “economists” predicted that tariffs would cause inflation. Economists know that tariffs are taxes. Taxes don’t cause inflation. Even sales taxes don’t cause inflation. Inflation is caused by an increase in the money supply. Also, Ms. Ungar’s claims about tariffs need to be balanced against Trump’s TACO behavior when the markets start diving each Monday after he’s announced some insanely high new tariff level. He quickly retreats (thank goodness).
There’s also the concern I happen to have about Trump’s tariffs being unconstitutional.
Something is really wrong with Batya's brain. This lunatic now thinks she's an economist! Here are the facts from the WSJ. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GRIFTER!

"....The gains were highly concentrated in healthcare and social-assistance fields, which includes jobs like home health aides and residential care workers. Such jobs tend to grow regardless of the economy’s health and have long been an engine of U.S. job growth...."
and
"The previously scheduled revisions sharply cut prior job numbers stretching back nearly two years....The labor market slowed even more to add just 181,000 jobs last year, versus the previously estimated 584,000.
Thomas Simons, chief U.S. economist at Jefferies, said that January’s high concentration of healthcare jobs “should temper enthusiasm quite a bit” regarding the report, and that there were other signs that gave him pause. “It’s hard to get terribly excited when you see pretty significant declines in financial services and trade, transportation and utilities—the kind of stuff you think of as being relatively high-paying jobs.”
Trade, transportation and utilities shed a combined 9,000 jobs in January...."
This is my first or second time here; I had no idea it was infested with hate-filled leftists ruled by their emotions as a matter of course. In normals spaces, it is perfectly fine to complain about people who scorn facts and logic in favor of insults and hate.
As anyone who knows economics, it is really important NOT to overreact to one month of data just to reinforce your priors. If the trends continue for 3-6 months and if job growth happens outside of health care, we all will have something to be happy about. But to pretend that is all provides support for an upside-down of economics is living in Superman's opposite bizarroworld. https://www.wsj.com/economy/jobs/healthcare-jobs-have-become-the-engine-of-americas-labor-market-114ffd34?mod=hp_lead_pos4
“Manufacturing jobs are up by 5,000 in the new January report.”
I wondered why Ms. Ungar didn’t express the increase as a percentage? Maybe because it’s 0.04% ?
Ms. Ungar also forgot to tell us that since Trump took office roughly 83,000 job were lost in the manufacturing sector. Here’s a graph from the St. Louis Federal Reserve:
While I don’t agree with everything you say, I am so glad that you are pointing out the rich libs who cry for illegal immigrants (II) so they don’t lose their cheap help.
Feigning that no one will fill the jobs IIs take is to do a pipeline for our over educated under employed youth / post adolescents/ living in their parents house/video game playing/ stoned/ entitled sons and daughters becoming depressed, fentanyl using hopeless and helpless, fodder for the totalitarian Soros faux anti-fascists, and communistic manipulators. Better we should raise the wages and conditions for the unacceptable’‘work done by illegals. The cost would be less than what we pay for the IIs and their extended family and progeny using our medical and education system.
The latest jobs report from Trump's hand picked minions after he fired the previous people for not posting numbers favorable to him. This is straight out of 1984.

I am reading that book now.
Typo alert: ‘serf’ caste, not ‘surf’
You beat me

Try posting facts which actually contradict hers. Oh, you can't, because her facts are correct.
You are as clueless as her.
See, the Left can't post contradictory facts because they rely on emotion. That's why insults and ad hominem are all they have left.
Complaining about emotion on Batya's Substack? Now THAT is funny!
This is my first or second time here; I had no idea it was infested with hate-filled leftists ruled by their emotions as a matter of course. In normals spaces, it is perfectly fine to complain about people who scorn facts and logic in favor of insults and hate.
hAte-fIlL3d lEfTisT?
No, just someone who understands economics and isn't a grifer.
Blah blah blah.
You have nothing.
Troll harder, darling.
Another clown, I see.
“Sure, Jan.”
Do you only speak in memes? Stick to X.
Do you speak only in insults?
What do you have to actually prove Batya wrong?
We’ll wait.

All info that is available to anyone who 1) has a brain, and 2) ins't grifting for cliks and book sales.
Trust the science. Basic economics in this case.

Love the idea of a “surf class” though: Bodhi and Johnny Utah forming an aristocracy based on catching waves.
OMG TRUMP IS A GENIUS YOU GUYS
