Yes, and their Olympic triumph may have another positive impact - young people ditching their phones to engage in ice hockey - great exercise - a return to the exercise and fun that earlier generations of American youths enjoyed in their free time. Maybe this will encourage communities to invest in these skating facilities for their citizens, too.
Trump made a stupid old man joke. The team laughed a bit nervously, as I interpreted it, and everyone who loves hockey rolled their eyes and ignored it and focused on celebrating. The Left / MSM isn’t stealing my joy on the historic wins for the USA. 🇺🇸
One aspect not mentioned in your excellent analysis: I think the left is also apoplectic that these are all straight white males. This is how they square the circle of celebrating traitor Eileen Gu who skis for the ChiComs (and only won silver).
At any rate there’s a very distinct contrast between Gu’s worldly cynicism and Jack Hughes’ earnest patriotism.
It boggles my mind that anyone could ever feel "righteous" to attack the American hockey team who just brought home the gold, who love America, and who express no hate for anyone.
When I remind myself that these are the same Woke lunatics who
- worship at the altar of Saint George Floyd,
- are happy to wear Arafat scarves and cheer for Hamas,
- scream about the "trans genocide,"
- confuse peaceful protests with violence and intimidation,
- think that AOC is brilliant,
then it all starts to make sense.
Directly or indirectly, Qatari dollars are destroying the USA.
The American left is following the same path Europeans are further down: any love of their culture and country is considered toxic. It’s creepy and suicidal. I hope we ostracize and reject our whiny 10% to the point that they lose their cultural relevance. The problem is they’re highly represented in media- in this case sports media.
I would go further: they are not only highly represented, but they have fully captured many/most of our institutions. Education, for example, has become so hideously Marxified that a teacher could (and probably would) get in big trouble for saying "Good morning, boys and girls."
That is just one of thousands of indications of how far we've fallen.
The Left will say that this is all just a response to Trump, but I would bet my left arm that long after Trump is gone the toxicity from the Left will not only continue but metastisize further.
