What a fun listen...As a cradle Catholic myself...I was laughing out loud🤣😂 with Bridgets take on the Pope/ Trump meme... And totally agree...If the Pope is going to get political(which I really dont like) then he is fair game for criticism...

Batya...you are also correct that a lot of the "newer" Catholics appear to want the more conservative rituals/liturgical practices of Catholicism...And I live in the upper midwest...while most of it is good and beautiful...as you said there also seems to be a small faction that

wishes to go waaayyy back to the beginning of the Church....funny thing is..some of them don't really understand what they are Wishing for🤔

More of this duo, please. Two sane normies with a sense of humor. It shouldn't be rare, but it is. I'm a fan of you both, please keep the conversation going.

Pope Benedict xvi wrote an encyclical, Charity in Truth, saying “The Church does not have technical solutions to offer and does not claim to interfere in any way in the politics of States.” If you are looking for a modern reference of why the church is not political, rather than looking at limited European empires hundreds of years ago, I think there are Church documents that support Batya. Pope Leo is an American and can complain about politics, but it’s not a church position as I understand it. Catholics are supposed to be educated and good stewards that act in accordance with the teachings of the church and may push politics in accordance with those beliefs, but the Church should not be reduced to a political instrument.

So sad the level of understanding

Love thy neighbor like yourself is political? How about this “whoever destroys single life destroys the entire world, whoever saves a single life saves the works entire” from the Torah

Not true. Read Mrs frazzled stuff.

@~20:00: 'Clap-ter'... (great term, btw...) My own Boomer experience brings me elsewhere. I thought Trump's election in '16 was hysterical insofar as how horribly the Establishment responded. (I didn't see just how savage the oppo to him would become.) HOWEVER... I did notice something VERY early on (I still had cable back then)...

They were getting boring. I'm not kidding. Maybe it's b/c I was watching Oliver, Maher, Colbert and even the guy AFTER Fallon- can't recall that SNL alum's name, but he started the thing 'A Closer Look'...

By the summer of '17 I was bored to tears. AAaaand... my cable bill was NOT worth the money once I lost interest. No lie- what I saved in Cable fees ($100/mo+) since then more than paid for me to spend 6 weeks in FL this past winter.

Sure, rn EVERYONE is talking about the 'podcast wars'. Tucker & Kelly (and Dore, and Greenwald) have lost a shit-ton of paid subscribers (I'm one, and I'm sure I'm not alone)...but I think the worse thing is this:

EVERYONE IS TALKIN' ABOUT TUCKER, KELLY et al...

And we're going to get bored. We're hard wired for this; to tire of something.

I genuinely believe this aspect- finding them tiresome- is going to hurt their businesses.

Don't get me wrong: Tucker's a Trust Fund baby and Kelley's got a hell of a nest egg from NBC...but the others? Mmmm...IDK....
